MR. MAGERO LAID TO REST. By Masero Isaiah

Mr. John Makokha Magero was on Saturday laid to rest at his home in Mungatsi Village, Bukhayo East Location, Nambale district, Busia county. Born on 30/08/1960 to the late ex-senior chief Jeremiah Makokha Magero and Mama Rosalia Nabrire Makokha, the lecturer was the fifth born child in a family of 15 children.

He joined Madende Primary School in 1967 and sat for his CPE in 1973, after which he joined Sigalame High School in 1974 for his secondary education, where he sat for his E.A.C.E in 1977. In 1978, he joined Bungoma High School for his E.A.A.C.E before graduating with a B.ED (ARTS) Degree in 1984 at Kenyatta University. Upon graduating he was posted to Kibabii High School where he taught until 1986. He also served as a principal at Ganjala Secondary School between 1987 and 1989 and as an assistant lecturer at Moi Teachers Training College, Eldoret.

Between 1991 and 1993, he joined the university of Nairobi for his Masters degree in Population studies and was currently pursuing his P.HD in environmental studies at Moi University. He joined Moi University as a lecturer at the department of Development Studies, where he served till he met his death through a tragic car accident that occurred at around 7am when his car rammed into a tree after hitting a boda boda cyclist. Mr. Magero lost his wife Ms. Carolyne Anyango in 1997 to whom he was married to in 1989. He was blessed with three children 2 boys and 1 girl and has since brought up his children as a single parent. He leaves behind 4 children namely Rollins, Bilha, Sheldon and Collins.

He served as:

¨ An examiner with KNEC.

¨ A member of the these Professional associations:

* Association for world education

* Population association of Kenya. (PAK)

* Organization for social Science Research.

¨ In various secondary school Boards: Nambale Boys, Khayo mixed, Our Lady of Mercy Busia.

¨ Patron Catholic Students Association MU catholic chaplain.

¨ Consultant Analyst for the National bureau of Statistics during national census between 1989 and 1995.

Meanwhile, eyebrows are raised as to why the institution did not allocate any of its buses for the burial.
