Power Impasse at Comfort Solved

The persistent power blackouts experienced at the Comfort Apartments at stage have now been resolved and will now be history. This is after Kenya Power (former Kenya Power and Lighting Company) management uplifted the ‘single phase’ power connection to ‘three phase’ enabling them to start using electronic devices like iron boxes and even coils.

Speaking to The 3^rd Eye yesterday in his office, the Hostels and Catering Officer Mr. Chesang confirmed the uplifting the single phase connection to the three phase adding that circuit breakers with more amperes will also be installed to boost the apartment’s electricity consumption.

“The 3 Amperes circuit breakers in the apartment are not able to support the consumption and with the uplifting of the single phase connection, 13 Amperes Circuit Breakers will now have to be installed.” He said

Students residing at Comfort had last week demonstrated over what they termed as ‘harassment’ by the apartment’s electrician who was fond of ‘intentionally’ switching off power. They also complained of poor drainage, poor sanitation and inaccessibility to the apartments.

The Chairman and Secretary General of Muso Mwamburi Mwang’ombe and Okeri Orina respectively, had earlier addressed them but their ‘visit’ did not bear much fruits as the comrades wanted an immediate solution to ‘their’ problems. The two had promised the Comfort residents to organise a peaceful match to the University’s Administration Block if ‘their’ problems were not to be addressed in a week’s time.

For now the comrades have to walk in the muddy paths to their residents as they hope that the university’s management will hear their cries and drill a path directly from the fence near the petrol station at stage.

Elsewhere, the as the short term possible solutions are almost exhausted. This is after a new switch bought only less than a week ago malfunctioned in the weekend. The switch, which was expected to solve the problem, is not compatible with the current wiring systems of Hostel J. This is according to the Hostels and Catering Officer Mr. Chesang who insisted that the power blackouts in the two hostels will be a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, the Hostels Department is working on a long term solution of installing a transformer to serve Hostel J and H alone; a measure which will completely solve the persistent power outages.

ACCOUNTANTS EARNS MORE IN MUPL

School of BBM registered their first victory as they humbled the tough Moi University Staff side at Ngeria by a goal. The goal from Cosmos Osoro triumphed the accountants reviving their spirit in the competition. Their win was also actualized by a good turnout of fans from the school.

On Monday, the School of Human Resource Development walloped the School of Arts at the pavilion grounds beating them by a 3-0 margin. Billy scored a brace with their Captain Guti adding an emphatic goal in the second half. The School of Arts will have to contend with the two agonizing defeats as they face BBM on Monday 26^th September, 2011.

The Muso Sports Director Brian Mukolwe has urged more comrades to support the tournament by attending the matches and fully participating in this noble cause. He also hinted that an undisclosed number of animals will be slaughtered for the champions.

“The winning team will not go empty handed. Plans are already underway to look for the animals. We have identified two people who will be supplying the animals.” said Mukolwe.

The league leader’s, the Information Scientists, will today face the School of Education at the Pavilion grounds (Ngeria) at 4.30 pm. The unbeaten side will look to extend their winning spree in the ongoing tournament. They will depend heavily on the Moi University’s Premier League top scorer Edwin Ouma who boasts of 5 goals. The IS team has 6 points and are now joint leaders (depending on today’s outcome) with the School of Business.

The rugby team to host a tournament

The Rugby School Team, the Arsonists, is expecting to host a 3-on-3 side event at the Rugby pitch (Kizito Ground). Speaking to The 3^rd Eye early this week, a player in the team said that the tournament would also encompass the fans apart from the players. The tournament will be held on the 3^rd of October

The plight of the village girl

It all begins when her name is drafted in the newspaper amongst the best students in the country. She is filled up with joy and starts jumping up and down and as happy as nobody’s business. Her parents are all in smiles and walk heads high in the village. Her father will rush to the nearest shop and buy for her new clothe as a reward for her marvelous performance as well as being the top student in the province.

People in the village soon start singing her name to the extent some will name their children after her. Huh! She is on the mantle and will get attentions of all kind ranging from praises from old men to monkey business. Young men will start naming her in their agendas and one will not be surprised if he/she finds some faces making impromptu visits to their home in the pretext of spreading the gospel.

Word spreads that she had got an admission letter to Moi university ……………………a university with a difference………… the villagers start retorting “she will be a doctor, she will treat our children”. She starts planning for the trip to rift valley. On one incident she goes to her former school and acts as a celebrity. She proceeds to advice the innocent faces glued to the books to emulate her.

A week later her parents embrace her and give her all precautions and urge her to stay chaste and act decent. She nods in agreement. From her village comes the university, she finds high buildings and people of different cultures and religion all over as well as old men and women in class. Her shape explains everything about her and looks down once a smartly dressed young man passes beside her and turns to take a quick look back when he is gone.

After weeks of orientations she begins to camouflage with the campus girls and leave whatever she learnt from the village. She starts to dress in a miniskirt and tight t-shirts. I once heard that a miniskirt is long enough to cover the subject matter but short enough to stimulate interest. Dressed like her fellow pretty ladies she goes one step forward and walks beside them so that she can get noticed. Huh! Her prayers are answered and she gets back some funny gestures of all kind from black and strong to tall and slim. Later she meets this young man and he starts addressing her all in smiles he hugs and holds her tightly, takes her to bed and summarizes the full story for her.

Weeks later he starts getting out of her world and rarely comes to see her. He fails to pick her calls she gets frustrated and goes to confront him in his room only to find he is in bed with another one. She almost faints and rushes out of his room in tears. She begins wailing and calling him all names. Her roommate consoles her and urges her to be strong……she feels dumped ,wasted and unwanted.

Her situation goes from bad to worse when she finds out she is pregnant. Her tightly held body is all of a sudden broken into pieces. She is no longer the same beautiful girl from the village. Her friends will look down on her and feel pity for her. They sympathize with her but not empathize with her. She was not clever like the campus girls. The campus girls are the ‘no strings attached type’ of girls that act like butterflies going from one man to another.

Pregnancy can kill someone’s hope and ambitions and kills the spirit of a person. The killer disease AIDS is waiting at the door. The first years are the main victims, symptoms are appearing. Ma dear ladies, keep hold of your dignity and avoid the agents of AIDS in campus. He will give stories of no basis and say to you lines from the soap opera movies. Say No! be serious don’t give yourself to him. Avoid him avoid pregnancy and AIDS.

Love That Went Sour

As the saying goes, men can share everything in their lives with other men except girlfriends, has indeed come true for one Dennis who is licking his wounds after his long engaged lover decided otherwise. The following is a true story of a man whose dreams, energy, time and resources have been sapped, not by accidental or unpredictable cause, but rather as a result of wholeheartedly devotion to someone, who unfortunately has deemed it worth and timely to call it a quit despite the endless showers of love, endurance, patience, tolerance and storm of difficulties that both of them have encountered and endured in their lives.

Dennis is an industrious and enthusiastic young man, aged 27, an IT specialist based with a prominent firm in Nairobi. His long trip to Moi university Main campus recently was not to collect results on behalf of someone or as a parent called upon to hear his son’s or daughter’s case in the senate chambers, but rather to dig into the truth of the flying allegation around, of his girlfriend developing illicit affair with another male student. And he categorically recounts how and when he met, now the estranged wife.

The lady whose name has been withheld, he says met together five years ago when the lady paid a short visit her cousin, who was a student at Kenyatta University then. What started as friendship between the two, thereafter blossomed into a real love. And being the caring man he was he could not resists the urge to know why the girl, who was still young and bright was no longer schooling. The revelation of the girl of how her family were from a humble background and the unfortunate fact that her KCSE results was quite below the bar, to allow her to join any tertiary institution, drew Dennis even more close to the girls heart.

First semester, first year he says the relationship was flowering well, they visited each other regularly, until the girls friends and area mates took notice and got acquainted of her fiancé who was supporting her financially. Second semester, this year on January their relationship started to rock, after the lady went cold and jammed their usual communication line, and whenever she picked his phone she could excuse herself with. assignments and cats, even on a Sunday morningAfter doing his investigation he found out that, she indeed was seeing someone else, who was one of the former Directors in the former 24th SGC, a fact that the Director himself confessed to him and asked for forgiveness, after discovering that the lady was married with two boys, 5years and 2years old respectively.

Having found a place in his heart to forgive the lady for her misdeed, he allowed the relationship to pick on once again, without envisioning anything untoward on the way. And no sooner had the squabble abated, than the lady went back to her old incorrigible flirting habits again. And this time not with any Director, but with a male student currently a fourth year and a prominent official of a certain Association here in campus, as he discovered this semester. A thin film of perspiration drops from his face as he continues. Through his impromptu visit few days ago, what met his eyes was enough confirmation beyond any doubts of what was going on. His supposed wife was in each others arms, accompanying each other like true lovers heading towards the C houses where the dude resides, unknown to the lady of his presence and other prying eyes around.

The following day he decided to surprise her. And surprisingly enough, on combing through some of her messages on her phone, he is greeted with sweet love messages and serious underway plan to abort a foetus from the guy, name withheld. Charged with fury he confronts the lady who evasively denies of any existence of pregnancy, and thus prompting him to furiously ask the clandestine man, who then arrogantly responds to his question over the phone, that he could even marry the girl and give her a financial support beyond what he has been providing to her.

A heart wrenched Dennis left campus precincts with some resolution; to leave the two in peace and resign from his job and two; to go a far away place with the their two kids and live elsewhere. Wind did reach him that indeed the abortion plan succeeded of which he confirmed positively to us through the phone yesterday.
